that timeout is for you to get to the board and be ready not to analyses with free time
a better suggestion is a i'm here button that after 30secs starts using your time to think for longer but people will prop abuse and waste time more than anything

So it's not a better suggestion.
It seems that it is better for the creator of the tournament to decide (30s or 60s or 90s or...) based on whether the tournament is more public or friendly
