You think wrong.
To many people this place is where you play chess, not chat with people. Just play.
Last ‚chat’ I remember was: „f bot blocked“
Here's kind of a funny thing. I'm not good at all playing fast, so I usually play long time controls 30+. But sometimes I'm really slow picking out a move, and my opponent will put in chat a mild rebuke such as:
Zzzzzzzzzz
Hello, are you awake?
Hello, are you in a coma?
Those I don't mind, but sometimes people are nasty, and mean-spirited, and angry. I don't like their comments.
yes
No.

It's pretty simple what the solution is here I reckon : IGNORE
i play correspondence..... seems like it'd be nice to strike up a conversation, but i guess chess, even in correspondence.... i almost never chat... just seems too friggin' weird....like...you're standing next to someone in a store, and you start talking to them??? and get into an extended conversation? no way...........!?!
i don't see how people chat in bullet..........oh, other than profanities? i mean, what else would strike up the ol chat box other than some extreme emotion, at least with that time control............

Having basic sportsmanship (a greeting and "good game") isn't chatting.
Yes I do when I have a comfortable position or am just winning.
