Rating Fluctuation

ChessAnalysis
In this blog I'm going to share something that normally happens in ratings

1. What is rating fluctuation?

A rating that is constantly changing by a lot is Rating Fluctuation.

One of my examples,

For example let's say that your Blitz rating is 1800 on January 1st. Then it increases to 1950 on January 3rd. On January 4th , it decreases to 1850. Likewise your rating won't be in a constant level.

2. Why does this happen?

Well , a lot of factors affect for this. Like how much sleep you'd got , environment , internet connection , etc. And if you try out a new opening or line this could happen.

Your opponents factors also affect this.

3. Is it normal?

Yes of course. Always keep in mind to stay relaxed and focused on your game.

4. Is it a good thing?

It's hard to say whether it is good or bad. But it may be a sign that you are improving.

*Some statistics*

I mentioned one of my own examples. But there you can see that it has only fluctuated for about a week. But there are some players' ratings that fluctuate over years!

Let me show some of them,

These players also have played a lot of games over the years. So that's why you'll see fluctuated ratings very often in players who play a lot.
